The future of Icelandic language technology: A chat about Snara, Málstaður and Miðeind's next steps on Rás 1

Linda Heimisdóttir, CEO of Miðeind, was a guest on Samfélagið on Rás 1 yesterday, 13 November 2025. In the interview, she reviewed the state of Icelandic language technology and discussed, among other things, Miðeind's recent acquisition of Snara, a search engine for over 2 million headwords in dozens of dictionaries and reference works, which was previously owned by Forlagið. The acquisition is a major step for Miðeind and a clear sign that the company is strengthening and reinforcing the foundations of Icelandic language technology for the future.

Linda also reported on the projects currently in progress at Miðeind and what lies ahead. The company is working on integrating Snara into Málstaður, Miðeind's platform for its language technology solutions, so that the dictionaries can be used there for text processing and significantly expand Málstaður's range of services.
